Alaska#50

Brown Bear with freshly caught Salmon, Brooks River, Alaska, USA.  After succeeding in a catch, this bear is walking away to enjoy the meal.  Of particular interest to me, is the fact that in this frame, I can see the eyes of both the bear as well as the fish, clearly.  Nikon D4S with Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6 lens.

Alaska#46

Brown Bear with freshly caught Salmon on Brooks Falls, Alaska, USA.  This bear waited for a while, at the top of the falls, to catch a Salmon swimming upstream.  I can almost see the smile on this bear’s face, at having succeeded.  Nikon D4S with Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6 lens.

Alaska#45

Brown Bear enjoying the surf in Brooks River, Alaska, USA.  The only reason this image became a keeper for me is that at first sight, it appears to be bear sunk in snow, but as you look carefully, one realizes that is surf in a river.  Nikon D4S with Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6 lens.

Alaska#43

Brown Bears on Brooks falls, Alaska, USA.  Compared to Alaska#41 and Alaska#42, here, I am back to shooting at fast shutter speed.  The normal way to work wildlife photographs.  Here, you see a Salmon swimming upstream (up the falls), right into the mouth of a waiting bear.  Nikon D4S with Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6 lens.

Alaska#42

Brown Bears on Brooks falls, waiting for Salmon swimming upstream.  This shot was made moments after Alaska#41.  I just turned the zoom from 200mm to 500mm to make this closer shot.  Nikon D4S with Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6 lens.  Shutterspeed of 1/4 s.

Alaska#41

Brown Bears on Brooks falls, waiting for Salmon swimming upstream.  As I said before, we spent the first day trip to this area seeing and photographing bears on Brooks Falls.  The second day trip was spent at the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes.  This photograph begins the shoot from day 3.  After my shoot on day 1 and during my shoot on day 2, I knew that my third day would be spent at Brooks falls.  I did some brainstorming on how I could shoot.  I came in on day 3, with a preconceived idea to make a slow shutter speed shot to smoothen the falls.  Here’s my first such image.  Nikon D4S loaded with the Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6 lens.  Shutterspeed of 1/6 s, slow enough to smoothen the falls, but fast enough to ensure that the bears are not fully blurred out.
